(SACRAMENTO)—Yesterday on the west steps of the State Capitol, Assemblymember Greg Wallis announced his bill AB 3118 amidst legislative colleagues and advocates for the solar industry from the California Solar and Storage Association (CALSSA) that will establish solar energy as the official state energy of California.
The bill will highlight California’s leadership and contribution to the solar industry and support the growth of solar energy in the state.
“As we strive for a sustainable tomorrow, AB 3118 is a declaration of California’s commitment to the solar energy industry. By naming solar as our official state energy, we celebrate California’s mission towards innovation, economic growth, and a cleaner environment,” Wallis said.
AB 3118 reflects California’s commitment to renewable energy. The state leads the nation in solar energy production, accounting for over 30% of electricity production in 2022. The Million Solar Roofs Initiative, launched in 2006, has evolved into over two million solar rooftops, driving innovation and job creation.
The solar industry plays an indispensable role in California’s energy economy. AB 3118 is a celebration of the resilience of our solar workforce and a recognition of the positive impact solar energy has on the state.
