Sacramento, CA – Today, Assemblymember Greg Wallis (R-Bermuda Dunes) joined his Assembly Republican colleagues to introduce AB 1219, a bill that would cut California’s Personal Income Tax by 1% across the board, delivering the largest middle-class tax cut in state history.
“Californians are struggling with the rising cost of living,” said Assemblymember Wallis. “Many families are making tough financial decisions every day, and some are even leaving the state because they can’t afford to stay. AB 1219 will provide real relief, giving people more of their hard-earned money to support their families, invest in their futures, and strengthen our communities.”
California’s tax burden is among the highest in the nation. The Legislative Analyst’s Office has reported that net migration out of California has nearly doubled since 2019, with 300,000 residents leaving in 2022 alone. Families and small business owners are struggling with rising costs, and this bill offers much-needed relief.
AB 1219 provides immediate tax relief by cutting the Personal Income Tax by 1% across all brackets. This will give families more financial security, support small businesses, and allow Californians to keep more of their income. The bill does not impact the additional tax imposed on high earners to fund mental health programs.
“California families don’t have reserves to fall back on—they have bills to pay and tough choices to make,” Wallis continued. “AB 1219 will make those choices a little easier.”
Assemblymember Wallis announced AB 1219 alongside his Assembly Republican colleagues at a press conference this morning.
