Assemblymembers Wallis, Gallagher, and Patterson Introduce Bill to Void Gas Price Hike

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Greg Wallis (R- Bermuda Dunes) today joined Assembly Minority Leader James Gallagher (R-Yuba City) and Assemblyman Joe Patterson (R-Rocklin) to introduce legislation that would void the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) recent vote on the Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS). The move comes after the Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) raised concerns that the policy would significantly raise costs for California families.

“At a time when families are struggling to keep the lights on and put food on the table, California cannot afford to gamble on risky policies pushed by unelected bureaucrats,” said Assemblymember Wallis. “Our legislation will prioritize economic compassion and ensure that policies impacting millions of Californians are held to a higher standard of accountability.”

The LAO’s analysis highlights the potential economic impacts of the LCFS, including higher energy and transportation costs. The proposed legislation seeks to protect Californians from these burdens while holding CARB accountable for its decisions.

“Hardworking families shouldn’t bear the brunt of misguided policies that raise costs with no guaranteed benefit,” said Assembly Minority Leader James Gallagher. “This bill puts the focus back where it belongs—on affordability and practical solutions.”

California continues to grapple with some of the highest gas prices in the nation, with the statewide average consistently outpacing the national average by over $1 per gallon. These high costs disproportionately impact families already struggling with inflation and rising utility bills. The introduction of new policies like the Low Carbon Fuel Standard threatens to further escalate these expenses, exacerbating the financial strain on Californians.
